A musical instrument is an instrument which is specifically created or adapted for making of musical sounds. In general any subject which produces sound can be a musical instrument – it is the way how the object becomes a musical instrument. The history of musical instruments starts with beginnings of human culture, but we have to remember that early musical instruments were not like musical instruments nowadays – they were made from natural materials and their purpose was ritual rather than entertainment, for example, they were used as a trumpet to signal the start of hunt or as a drum in religious ceremonies. The concept of melody and artistry of musical composition were unknown to early musical players of musical instruments. But over the centuries cultures eventually developed both composition and performance of melodies for entertaining purposes, therefore, it can be said that musical instruments evolved in step with changing applications of them.
Anyway, the date of origin of the first device which can be considered as musical instrument is disputed. The oldest object which could have been a musical instrument – a simple flute – is about 67000 years old. Actually determining a specific time of musical instrument invention is impossible, because definitions of musical instruments are subjective and used materials are relatively unstable – a lot of early musical instruments were made from animals skins or skins, as well as from wood, shells, plants and other non-durable materials. As musical instruments evolved, the selection and quality of materials evolved as well. We have to take into account that musical instruments developed independently in many populated regions of world, but contact among civilizations caused rapid adaptation of most musical instruments in places which are placed far from their origin place.
Classification of musical instruments is a discipline in its own right, but many classification systems have been used over the years to obtain the existing. Musical instruments can be classified, basing on their effective range, material composition, size and other features, but the most common academic method, called Hornbostel-Sachs, used means by with musical instruments produce the sound. It should be mentioned that the academic study of musical instruments is called organology.
Jazz is a genre of music that originated in African-American communities during the late 19th and early 20th century. It spreade over the United States as it was becoming very popular in different places of the country. This genre was invented more that 100 years ago and it’s truly hard to prove where it actually began. Jazz is a mix of many well-known musical styles. It also is made with a lot of improvisation. Jazz was spreading in a multi-cultural society in America and that is reason why many intellectuals around the world call Jazz as ”one of Americas original art forms”.
While jazz was spreading around the world, many countries or regional musical cultures affected the new music genre and new styles of jazz were made. Great example is New Orleans jazz which was made combining polyphonic improvisation and earlier genres of music. Later in the 1930s new styles of jazz were made. Some of them were Kansas city jazz, Gypsy jazz and bebop. Musicians were gathering in swing big bands. At the end of 1940s a new, much calmer style – Cool jazz – was introduced.
In the 1950s many musicians were experimenting with Free jazz. It was played without regular meter, beat or formal structures. Later in 1950s was the time of developing another style of jazz – Modal jazz. As the music got affected by modern technologies, new instruments were introduced into style of jazz. In the 1980s a commercial form of jazz was gaining popularity in radio. It was called smooth jazz. There are lots of other jazz styles:

Music. It is everywhere. Weather you go to a store, to a restaurant, sit in your car in a traffic jam or chill at home, chances are that music is playing in the background. But why do we as human beings like to listen to music so much?
I think the answer lies in the fact that music is so very inspiring and uplifting, because those are the reasons why we listen to music in the first place. But why does music seem so inspiring and uplifting to us? What makes music so special?
The biggest reason why music is in fact able to inspire us to create, to write, to make art and to lift our spirits even in the worst of the days is that music is able to create emotions and in return emotions make us feel in a certain way. So that means that music is able to make us feel. It is a simple as that. For example, if the music is in minor scale and sounds sad then automatically when you listen to it you sound sad to, but when music is created in a major scale and it is happy, bright and fun we feel that way too.
And if music is able to cause these emotions why not inspire us and lift us up. Even if there isn’t an uplifting or inspiring music genre, we all have those songs that when we listen to them we instantly feel inspired and feel much better even if your day sucked. For me one of these songs are Alive by Empire of the Sun. It is the ultimate summer jam that makes me feel free, happy and also inspired to go and do something for myself, to create something new, usually thats music and songs.
I bet that you in your Ipod, on your phone or in your Spotify play-list too have a few of those songs that when they come on you just feel that much better. And isn’t it great that music can instantly lift you up and inspire you?
Music is everywhere and we can’t live without it!
That is a fact and music exited us, improves our mood and increases our productivity but in the recent years music playback has migrated from radio stations and CD/Mp3 playback to streaming services like Pandora, Spotify and other similar companies. Lets take Spotify that is a service where you can listen to music for free but you get some commercials in between those songs but if you want to get rid of those commercials you need to pay a premium membership fee that is not cheap and will cost you several Euros every month.
Some people have suggested to take credit and pay for those services but in some cases that is not the best course of action because when the day comes and you need to pay back that credit then you will be I deep trouble and that music will not be so good after all. Of course music increases our productivity, mood and other emotional responses but is that increase with those extra Euros every month? I don’t this that I have come across any case studies where someone has proved that music actually increase productivity and linked it with actual data so it could be a great experiment.
So we cannot know for sure weather music is good or bad for you and maybe the reality is that when you listen to music you cannot productively concentrate on to oher things and so it could actually decrease productivity. I want to see some case studies so if you can find any can you please email me?
Music is a big part of our daily lives because we hear music everywhere and we often use music as a way of relaxing or just the opposite – pumping ourselves up for a night out or a workout. That’s why majority of people cannot imagine their lives without some kind of music. Nowadays there are a lot of ways how to listen to music, one of the most popular being listening to music online. So here will be a few of the most popular websites, where you can listen to music.
For most people YouTube is known as a website where you can watch different type of videos from funny cat videos to latest movie trailers. But a lot of people use YouTube as a way of listening to music. On YouTube you can easily find different versions of many songs from their music videos to unplugged versions so you not only have the variety to chose but they are very easy to find. On top of that you have the ability to create playlists like on most music listening websites so you can listen to your music nonstop.

Spotify is a website that allows you to listen to almost all of your favorite artists and bands charge free. Lately music festivals have gained new popularity among music lovers all around the world because these festivals let people experience many different bands, musicians and music styles in a course of one or few days.
It is very hard to determine when the music festival culture began, because they happen all over the world and nobody can track every bigger or smaller music festival. But if I had to guess one of the first music festivals could be The Newport jazz Festival in 1954. It gathered more than 11 thousand people and since have grow to be one of the most prominent jazz festivals. A few years later the same people that were behind The Newport Jazz Festival organized a Folk version that too gathered huge crowds.
Another festival that shaped the music festival scene is the Monterey International Pop Festival which first took place in 1967. This was the first huge rock festival and it was a three day event filled with music of different genres eras and places.
And of course looking at the history of music festivals you simply cannot not mention festival that was held in a dairy farm in Bethel, NY in 1969 – Woodstock. This three day festival is the most famous festival even in this day and it have shaped not only the way festivals are held but music in general.
But music festival culture wasn’t born solely in the US. There were and still are many famous music festivals in other countries around the world. A good example here is the Isle of Wight Festival, which first was held in 1968 and later hosted the biggest stars in music world. And of course also the Glastonbury Festival was and still is one of the flagship festivals in the world. The first Glastonbury was held in 1970 in England new town named Pilton and only a year later David Bowie performed on Glastonbury Pyramid Stage.
Those were the festivals that popularized the music festival culture and nowadays it is going stronger than ever. With festivals like Lollapalooza, Coachella, bonnaroo and others thousands of people each year go to one or the other music festival. Now there are festivals the host a variety of music genres and those that are specific to one, for example Austin City Limits Festival for EDM music lovers. And even if you don’t like a certain genre of music there definitely is a music festival out there that will satisfy your wishes, just look.
Music as we know by now is a very powerful tool that can improve our mood and change our state of mind but how this all happens and why do some songs make you feel good but others just makes everything worse.
To fully answer this question I must first explain some scientific studies that have been conducted and they basically state that if you have a bad mood you can listen to music and improve it but only if the music is specifically designed to to that thing. If you are sad and will listen to joyful tunes it will make everything worse but if you have a whole playlist of slow and calm music that will slowly improve your mood as well as comfort your emotions just like a friend. These findings are very interesting as they state that if you listen to music when you are sad then you need calm and relaxing music but in general people thing the other way round and when they feel sad they try to listen to fast and exhilarating tunes that ultimately make the feeling even worse.
Of course you can improve your mood and your happiness level when you listen to pop or rock but you have to know when is the right time for that particular genre and that is why ultimately we will need music players that will know our taste of songs and play the exact song that will help us concentrate, party or just comfort us in a bad situation.
If you think about modern music players like Spotify then you can see that this industry is already moving to personalized players and personalized music stations but there is still a long way to go while we can get the exact tune that would help us in this exact moment. If you imagine every song that there is on our planet organized into hundreds and hundreds of categories and every category is created for a particular mood then you can also imagine how that data and knowledge would be applied to individuals just like you and me. We usually like songs that are similar to the ones that we have already heard so when designing a system that would know all our music needs we would also need to know what songs do you know and in what categories they fit.
Mood and mindset are very problematic to quantify because they are primarily objective phenomenon and we cannot measure objective things because the persons inner processing can be different and where someone thinks he is in bad mood he actually has depression or something like that. So at the moment we have to keep listening to music that we like and try to find out happiness song list by ourselves.
Jazz is a music genre that have rich and colorful past, but jazz music now and the future of jazz looks pretty bright too, because this style of music is no where near the end and people will keep playing jazz for a long, long time.
Historically jazz as a music style originated in the very end of 19th century and in the start of 20th century. Then it was mainly a music style that was played in African – American communities, but later grew as an lone standing and strong music genre that is now loved by millions of people all over the world.
Jazz music have kept evolving and changing over the years but it has never lost its appeal, rhythm and melodies that are the most exciting parts of jazz music. In the past jazz could be heard only in jazz clubs where it needed to be played live and although nowadays with technology jazz music can now be heard in vinyl, CD, DVD forms and even over the radio, a good live jazz performance won’t ever go out of style and will never die. And that is the first prediction about jazz music in the future. Although types of listening devices can and will keep evolving and there will be new ways of listening all music including jazz, nothing will replace live jazz performance even in the future.
I think that jazz is one of those music styles that will always keep changing and bettering itself, because jazz can be influenced by all of the other music styles from pop to country. So jazz will only continue to grow as a music genre and will keep taking up a good chunk of so called classical music. But even now we can see and will continue to see how jazz steps out of classical music genre and stands on its own alongside rock, pop and country. The main reason for this is that people like jazz as soothing or energizing music. You can listen to it when you are sad or when you are happy. Moreover jazz is one of those music styles that you can’t get bored with because jazz is heavily based on improvisations, so you may never hear two completely identical jazz songs in live performances.
And of course the way of playing jazz will also change. Not only devices we listen music on are evolving but also the music instruments that we play the music on are evolving. These instruments and their accessories are becoming better, more advanced and therefore the quality of music and the range of music you can play on them only increases. With this comes not only new ways of playing buy new aspects to music in general and to jazz specifically, because jazz is an instrument music style that is based on many different music instruments and strong voices.
These few predictions may or may not come true in the near or not so near future, but one thing to remember is that jazz won’t ever stand still in one place. Whether it will be through improvisation, music instrument change or added voice, jazz keeps and will keep changing and evolving.
Music has long been linked with increased focus and creativity and different music types produce different results where one genre is calming and thought provoking than the other pumps you up and enables you to exercise fastest and with more energy. There are many theories why this happens and if musical frequencies or thone changes could do something to our brains processing power or maybe this is just all in our heads and music just overpowers other sounds and lets us concentrate more efficiently.
If we examine music closer we can see that music consists of various frequencies pitches, tones and a lot more so there are countless variables that can be changed so no two songs can ever be completely identical. Of course there are similarities in many modern pop music songs and that is because our brain likes familiar things and when we hear a song that sounds like that other song then unconsciously we like that song and we continue listening to it. But now imagine how all these unpredictable tone and pattern changes can affect our state of creativity. When we listen to music usually it calms us down and allows us to think more clearly because we have anchored our thinking in that tonality or maybe the music just changes our mood revealing some other sides of a problem that we are struggling with. In any case this is a very powerful tool that we need to consider because if it helps then there is obviously some link between music and thinking.
If you are not sure if music really helps you think then turn on some classical music peace or an instrumental masterpiece and just listen to it for a couple of minutes. The key is not to do anything else as this will distract you from listening and understanding the music clearly. When a couple of minutes have passed by start doing your usual creative writing or thinking and you will see that it is somehow improved and you can think more clearly. But this phenomenon does not happen every time as sometime our mood is just bad and then even the most calming tones will not improve our mood.
Another thing to consider when talking about music and creativity is the music types that usually evolve and change over time. If you think about your teen days you probably remember listening to music that is completely different like the music that you like today. Why this happened is not clear to science but there probably is a link between an evolving brain and different music themes as well as some cultural influences that shape the youth. These music types can also be very powerful after experiencing some movie or other emotional event when there was music playing. This thone somehow is ingrained with our emotions and when we hear the same song again then we instantly remember those good or bad emotions that we had at that moment.
If we look at all the various musical instruments and how they produce sound then we can see that this musical instrument is like an extension to the human that is playing this instrument. This may sound like a far out idea but basically people that ate talented can produce music for almost all instruments and it will still sound awesome weather it is played from guitar, piano or with drums. Basically the music that is played can be achieved from any of these instruments and thus is an abstraction. If you look at the music science then you will see that music is composed of various notes that are then coordinated through 8 different octaves and basically is the representation of various different frequencies. If you want to represent frequencies graphically then using music theory you need to use notes and octaves and then you can put down your created rithm.
It is very interesting to think about how musical instruments have evolved from very simple drum like things like tamburini and whistles to famous guitars and pianos. But as we all know technology does not stop evolving and as the computer age progresses more and more music will be produced through digital equipment that allows artists to quickly compose and reproduce their creations. If you think about what music is then it is an artform that expresses that artists frame of mind in that exact moment and because we humans are tool-builders then even in this field there will be significant breakthroughs that will allow us to create music with efficiency and speed that is certainly not available at this point in time. Of course there are those digital DJ programs that allow you to compose virtual music but because these programs run on our computers the input through keyboard and mouse is still too slow to facilitate real time music production. Imagine how the industry will change when someone invents an input device that allows us to control that computer with our mind and you will just have to think about a melody or note and it will instantly appear digitally and could be reproduced and changed. This is of course science fiction but I think that it will become reality in the coming decades and almost all music will be created in that way as it will be more efficient than writing down notes and trying to play the same piece over and over tweaking and improving till it sounds just right.
I also imagine that in the near future guitars and other musical instruments will be able to directly input data into our computer and allow artists to play a tune and it instantly will appear on a digital note-sheet that you can then replay and tweak to your liking. But I am not a musician and because of that there may be factors that I am not aware of that might influence the future of musical instruments.
