As soon as the sacrilegious talk about the shortage of young talented composers in Lithuania begins, the name of BrassBastardz quietens the sceptics. BrassBastardz has it’s origins in an acid jazz project started six years ago by Alvydas Mačiulskis who, at the time, was a member of the group Saulės Kliošas. They are now an established group playing a mixture of jazz, electronic music, and hip hop much appreciated by fans. The lead singer of the group, Daiva Starinskaitė, is the former vocalist of Saulės Kliošas; the rhythm section of the group is made up of the, much in-demand brothers, Domas and Marijus Aleksos, who play music of various genres; Justas Fresh, a member of the Vilnius Boogaloo parties, is on the decks for the group; and finally, Aleksandras Raičenoks, master of all trades, plays saxophone and keyboards. Those who attend the clubs of the capital would know what a really great night out the group is; whereas those who know nothing of BrassBastardz should not miss the opportunity to hear their interesting, intensive and intriguing music. The group has recorded four vinyl albums. However, the awards for the group’s video clip “Jiemah” four years ago, and the attention from the public has not prompted the musicians to become more commercial — BrassBastardz performs rarely, yet each occasion is a memorable experience.
