It will not come as a surprise to listeners already acquainted with the group QU5 to learn that the group’s first concert outside Lithuania was held, this year, in France; the group’s music exhibits the presence of Parisian playfulness and nostalgia. This project that brought together two vocalists, an accordion trio, and a drummer made its first stage appearance in 2006. After a year, the group took first place at the Jazz Fontanas (Eng. Jazz Fountain) competition. The leaders of the group, vocalists Valentina Jaronskaja and Rūta Švipaitė, participants in various music projects, are well known to those interested in the young jazz performers of Lithuania. A wild party at the club or a moment of reflection over a glass of wine—the soundscape of QU5 offers something interesting to a wide range of listeners. Contrast is abundant in the music played by the group—but has this ever prejudiced jazz?
